Market@theSheds celebrates Africa Day on 26 May

Come Play at Market@theSheds this Saturday! We’re planning a roaring Africa Day in the heart of the city with The Muffinz Music as the main attraction!

Africa Day will be celebrated all over the world – and the Capital of South Africa will be no exception. Pretoria’s popular inner-city market will host this beautiful occasion at its monthly event on 26 May, providing a space where the rich traditions, tastes, arts, music, and cultures of Africa can be showcased and celebrated. More importantly, where the message of peace, harmony, and unity can be experienced in an environment of diversity and social cohesion.

The Muffinz Music are winners of numerous South African awards who have received a standing ovation at the Cape Town International Jazz Festival, toured Norway and performed at the Doha International Jazz Festival. The guys have also appeared on stages in Mozambique, Swaziland, Algeria and the DRC with their highlight, the chance to perform at the Apollo Theatre in New York in October 2014. The show was sold out. Need we say more..

The best of local artists will share the stage. Lynol Siwela is an incredible performer with a vast profile of original songs and renditions of music from Africa and around the world, inspired by Oliver Mtukudzi, Ringo Madlingozi and Jabu Kangile. His band is taking Gauteng by storm and guarantees to leave the crowd in a happy mood.

Zebra band: Is it black with white stripes? Or is it white with black stripes?

Is it music with comedy? Or comedy with music? Let’s just call it entertainment!

Zebra has opened for Jack Parow, PHfat, Locnville & Beatenburg.

Magatsela More is a super talented Afro-jazz artist who is quickly becoming known as one of the new kids on the block. He is inspired by artists such as Sello Galane, Selaelo Selota and Hugh Masekela.

Shava Afrika’s music is poetic and spiritual and fuses jazz, reggae, contemporary pop and traditional rhythmic African sounds. Shava is a five-piece band with members coming together from Zimbabwe, South Africa and Mozambique. And then there is the beautiful Mapula Mahlo, an energetic, enthusiastic and creative singer strutting her stuff in jazzy, soulful style.

Market @ the Sheds is a monthly gathering spot where people from all walks of life can experience Art, Food and Music in the true colours of the capital! Local fashionistas, art lovers, foodies, tourists, trendsetters and socialites of all ages find themselves indulging in delicious street foods and craft cocktails, whilst collectible designer goods and fashion spread curiosity, and the smell of hand-made leather adds to the spice of it all!

Look forward to a vibrant and colourful day in Pretoria CBD. 🙂

The Market is an initiative of the Capital Collective, an NPC driving inner city rejuvenation projects in the Pretoria CBD.
