Rubber Duc

Starting out as a trio consisting of Nick Jordaan, Brendan Campbell and Sheldon Sham, the DUCs have grown not only in reputation, but also in size! Amiel Gopal has just joined the band, adding spice to their already quirky and unique sound, which they describe as “folk-swing-hop”.

They’ve gathered a fine flock of followers and a ‘duckload’ of attention. And rightfully so: their sound is fun and authentic, with cheerful, catchy melodies and clever lyrics that stick in your mind… and make you want to dance. In addition to performing original material, they do a mean job of “ducking up” covers with such playful passion and sincere joy it’s simply impossible not to like them!

The Festive Season in the capital just became more fun, with Market@theSheds going big at one of the city’s most beautiful locations, Freedom Park.

This year, shoppers who are looking for something different from the normal stocking filler, can explore local art, design and fashion gifts within a vibey atmosphere of music, food and drink.

Those who have been to Freedom Park, are in agreement that it is one of the most beautiful and underrated attractions in the city. The heritage site, set on 52 hectares on Salvokop Hill (between the Voortrekker Monument and Pretoria Station), overlooks the capital, offering visitors a panoramic view of Pretoria. The market will be held in the exquisite 2 000-seat amphitheatre.

With an array of more than 50 traders, music performances to indulge in, a wonderful crowd of people and tasty gourmet food, visitors won’t be disappointed.

In the spirit of the season of giving and in support of World Aids Day, market goers are encouraged to bring a gift for a child orphaned by Aids.

This original and atmospheric CBD market has been showcasing beautiful locations in the city since October 2014. Previous venues include 012Central, Pretoria Zoo, the old Fire Station, Pretoria Country Club and the old Moyo’s at Fountains Valley.

The event takes place on Saturday, 28th from 11h00 until 18h00. Entrance is R50 for adults with kids entering FREE.

Here’s to the end of Winter!

DSC_0411Don’t miss the Market@theSheds on 29 August. We plan to have a lot of fun in celebration of the end of the dreary season. With more than 40 stalls there won’t be a shortage of things to see, shop or taste and our line-up of musicians will be excellent, as always.

Despite the cold weather last month, we had a wonderful day at the Market@theSheds, showing once again that people love local and are keen to explore exciting “new” city treasures.

The old Fire Station is very dear to artists in- and advocates of our city. It is one of the most beautiful old buildings  in the CBD with a lot of history and tremendous potential.  Our focus on local art, design, food and music, combined with the city-wide rejuvenation drive, marks this spot as set to become a sought-after tourist attraction in the city. We will be making this our base for now, while still doing pop-up markets in between. (Watch this space!)

Come enjoy a celebration of the capital and its people with great local bands, craft beer, bubbly, wine, great food and a fine selection of artists, designers and traders.
